Moremi Statue Of Liberty
Queen Moremi was married to Oranmiyan, the last son of Oduduwa and the father of Eweka I of Benin Dynasty....
Moremi Statue of Liberty is built in honor of Queen Moremi Ajasoro and it is situated in Ile Ife, Osun State.
This status reminds of her bravery and how she saved her people from the Igbo (forest) people.
Note: Igbo (forest ) does not in any way relate to the Nigeria Igbo tribe.
Queen Moremi was married to Oranmiyan, the last son of Oduduwa and the father of Eweka I of Benin Dynasty ( read the IGODOMIGODO: The Historical Benin Dynasty here).
Queen Moremi was the first wife of Oranmiyan. She was born in Offa into a Royal family.
The people of Igbo (forest) who happened to stay in the neighbouring village from Ile Ife, had been enslaving, kidnapping and capturing the people of Ile Ife because the people of Ile Ife thought they were spirits because of the mafia leaves they were disguising themselves with . This continuous attacks prompted queen Moremi to consult the spirit of Esimirin, and implemented the advice she got after promising to give her most precious. She allowed herself to be captured by the people of Igbo (forest), their King fell in love with her and made her live amongst his people, she learnt a lot about this people and later escaped back to Ife. With the knowledge she had about the people of Igbo (Forest) she was able to advise her husband Orimiyan and the people to attack the people of Igbo (forest) with torchlight. This information led to the end of the continuous attack from the people of Igbo.
The Moremi statue of Liberty is built on the same place where Queen Moremi Ajasori lived many centuries ago, it is forty-two feet tall and it is the tallest statue in Nigeria and the fourth in Africa.
