The Ogbunike caves are located in Ogbunike, Anambra State, Southeastern Nigeria. The collection of caves has been in use for centuries by local people, it’s a tradition that visitors must remove their shoes before entering the caves, women having their monthly cycles are not allowed into the caves.
The Ogbunike caves were said to be discovered by a man named Ukwa, from the Umucheke family of Ifite-Ogbunike. Legends claim that the caves were created by a deity, Ogba, who they believe lives within. The Ogbunike caves are a system of many caves linked together by small tunnels and passages.
Every year, locals hold the Ime Ogbe festival in celebration of the caves and their spirits and this attracts visitors from around the state and beyond.
